On
Thursday, March 24th, United States Senator Joe Lieberman visited
Emmett O'Brien Technical High School in Ansonia, Connecticut. Lieberman
was greeted by Dr. Abigail Hughes, the Superintendent of the Connecticut
Technical High School System, Lisa Hylwa, Principal of O'Brien Tech,
other local dignitaries and student leaders. Lieberman gave a short
speech to the students, staff and invited guests stressing the importance
of "dreaming big, working hard, and believing you can accomplish
anything." He talked about how
Connecticut's Tech schools have produced many success stories including
his own uncle who graduated from J.M. Wright Technical High School
in Stamford.
Afterwards, Lieberman was given a guided tour of the Manufacturing,
HVAC, Drafting and Culinary shops at O'Brien Tech. He said that
he was very impressed by the quality of the work that he saw being
done by the students. Lieberman also met with students who are working
at Sikorsky Aircraft through the school's Cooperative Work Experience
program. He stated that it was extremely important for educational
institutions to develop partnerships with industry to produce well-trained
workers for the future.
