Wilcox
Technical High School's Carpentry Department will be working
on a special project for the Connecticut State Police Academy.
They will be building a realistic training environment which will
be utilized by law enforcement professionals all across
the state. The project, aptly called Wilcox Township, encompasses
the design and construction of four 3-sided facade buildings in
a mini-city format.
On Friday June 10, 2004,
the official groundbreaking ceremony for the project took place.
Officials from both the Connecticut Police Academy, the State
Police and the Connecticut Technical High Schools attended the
ceremony at the Connecticut Police Academy in Meriden, Connecticut.
Dr. Abigail Hughes, Superintendent of the Connecticut Technical
High Schools, told the assembled audience, "I think that
this project is a very exciting opportunity for our students.
I can't wait to see it when it is all completed."
Scott Behling, Department
Head of the Wilcox Tech Carpentry program, said that he was very
confident that his students will do a great job on the project.
Wilcox Tech's Principal Richard Cavallaro also expressed
confidence in the students. "We have a lot of fantastic,
hard-working kids at our school. I am sure they will build something
that we can all take pride in."
The Connecticut Police
Academy is run by two state agencies: Police Officer Standards
and Training (POST) for statewide municipal police officers -
Executive Director Chief Flaherty and the Department of Public
Safety (which the State Police are under) - Commissioner Arthur
Spada. |
