Dr.
Abigail Hughes, Superintendent of the Connecticut Technical High
School System (CTHSS), attended a special breakfast at Prince
Technical High School in April to recognize Young Women leaders
in the school. She was so impressed by the students that she
invited them to the CTHSS Central Office in Middletown on Tuesday,
May 13th to extend their experience by meeting with five consultants
(Kim Traveso, Mary Skelly, Ruth Demand, Christine Johnson and
Karen Zimmerman) who shared their wisdom and provided the young
ladies with some wonderful advice.
The meeting
seemed to have a very positive effect on the students evidenced
in their comments:
Saquya
Gaston: ”I feel that the meeting
was fun. It made me realize how important a mentor can be.
I also think that I learned a lot just by listening to the
ladies share their stories.”
Mirthalys
Melendez: “ It was a great
experience to be in a room with outstanding women who have
achieved so much.”
Nordia
Meggie: “I learned that you should
never be satisfied with the way things are; you must always
strive to do better. Also, stay focused and find a mentor.”
Emily
Lugo: “I
was nervous at first, but after being surrounded by such a
positive atmosphere, I came out with self-confidence and a
new way of looking at life.”
Shantel
Honeygham: “The main thing for
me was the importance of having a mentor and more than that,
to believe in myself.”
