Top School Leaders are Selected for 2008

Cheney Tech landed double honors with the designation of Principal of the Year Bruce Sievers and Assistant Principal of the Year Bob Sartoris

Sievers has been a part of the Connecticut Technical High School System (CTHSS) since 1979 starting as an English and Social Studies teacher at Vinal Tech in Middletown. He then went on to work as a school administrator at Prince Tech for 6 years and then became Principal of Cheney Tech in 1998. He received a Bachelor's Degree in English from Bucknell University, a Master's Degree in Liberal Studies from Wesleyan University, and a Sixth Year Certificate in Educational Leadership from Southern Connecticut State University. Sievers also serves as Commissioner of the NEASC Commission on Technical and Career Institutions as well as President of the Constitution State Conference Governing Board.

He is very proud of the educational environment that has been developed at Cheney Tech. Over the past three years he has also overseen a major renovation and expansion project of Cheney Tech. "It is is a great place to work and a great place to learn," said Sievers.

Sartoris worked in the East Hartford and South Windsor school systems for 8 years as a Social Studies Teacher and administrator before taking on the responsibilities of Assistant Principal of Cheney Tech in 2003. He has a B.S. degree in Political Science and M.A. in Education from the University of Connecticut. He also earned a Sixth Year Certificate in Education from Central Connecticut State University. Sartoris also serves on the Executive Council Local 61 American Federation of School Administrators and was a Connecticut Education Association “future leader” representative to the National Education Association Conference in Washington D.C.

Sartoris believes he was chosen Assistant Principal of the Year because he has been one of many contributors to developing the academic excellence that is achieved by Cheney Tech staff and students.

Congratulations Mr. Sievers and Mr. Sartoris and congratulations Cheney Tech!
