Dear 9th Grade Parents & Guardians:
I want to take this opportunity to share some reflections
and concerns I have about the freshman class. My purpose is
to be pro-active, and to prevent any of our freshmen from getting
into trouble at school.
A review of the discipline data for the freshman class during
the first marking period shows that the majority of referrals
and suspensions were for inappropriate language, hitting and
pushing, and disorderly conduct. Most of these behaviors occurred
in the hallways, in the dining hall, or on the bus. While none
of these behaviors have been malicious or injurious to others,
they are, nonetheless, uncivil and dangerous. They are against
school board policy, and not in accordance with the Cheney
Tech Belief Statement (a copy of which is posted on the school
website: www.cttech.org/cheney.
From the menu on the left side of the page, click on About
Us, and then click on Belief Statement).
We have had several instances where freshmen have brought
items to school with the intent to sell. I urge you to remind
your students that it is against school board policy for students
to sell anything in school that is not an approved school fundraiser.
Students should bring to school only those items that are needed
for their education.
Please remind your students to secure their personal items
while at school. Remind them to purchase a school lock from
the Main Office ($6.00) for their locker, and to lock their
valuables in their locker. Unfortunately, several freshman
have had money and electronic devices stolen from unsecured
lockers or unattended backpacks.
I’m asking you to share this data with your students,
and to make sure that they understand their personal responsibilities.
Our goal is to form a more positive school climate through
the core values contained in the school Belief Statement. I
need all of our students to be responsible, productive, respectful
individuals.
Sincerely,
Bruce R. Sievers, Principal |
