Frequently Asked Questions and Answers

Question:         May we purchase the Cheney Logoed Attire at the school?
Answer:           No, you may only purchase these items through The Connecticut Shirt Man. Our School Store website is: www.onlinegearstore.com/cheney or contact them at 1.800.348.7679. Flyers and order forms are located in the Main Office of the School and on our school website: www.cttech.org/cheney. Cheney Tech will not have these items for sale and will not accept orders/money from students for these items.  

Question:         Which shirts may I purchase to wear during the Academic Cycle?
Answer:           Only Polo Shirts and Twill Button Down Shirts.

Question:         May I wear Exploratory, Athletic Department or Beavers Gear Tee’s instead of the Polo Shirt or Twill Button Down during the Academic Cycle?
Answer:           No, Cheney Tech logoed Tee’s may only be worn as Physical Education Attire and Exploratory Tee’s are only worn by 9th Grade Students during their Trade Cycle.

Question:         May we wear Cheney Sweatpants or Athletic Shorts during Academics Cycle?
Answer:           No, Cheney Sweatpants or Athletic Shorts may only be worn as Physical Education Attire.

Question:         What style and colors of pants may we wear?
Answer:           Casual or Dress Pants or walking length shorts (Dockers, Twill, Chino or Corduroy Style) in khaki, white, black or olive colors; plaid may be worn if in school colors. Girls may also wear skirts (no more than 4 inches above the knees), shorts or Capri pants.

Question:         May we wear jeans?
Answer:           No Jeans will be allowed during Academic Cycle.

Question:         May students wear Cheney Sport/Club/Shop or Plain Hooded Sweatshirts?
Answer:           No. Hooded Sweatshirts can not be worn (see Student/Parent Handbook for more details on hooded sweatshirts). Students may purchase the Polar Fleece, Cadet Collar Sweat, or Beaver Gear Crewneck Sweatshirts to wear as part of the Academic Dress Policy.

Question:         Do students have to purchase Physical Education Attire?
Answer:           All students must wear Cheney Logoed Physical Education Attire. You may purchase, Cheney Logoed Athletic Shorts, Sweatpants, Running Pants and Beavers Gear or Athletic Dept Tee’s.

Question:         Do students have a choice on whether or not they have to wear these items?
Answer:           All Howell Cheney Technical High School Students must adhere to the New Academic Dress Policy and Trade Dress Policy, if students do not follow these policies disciplinary actions will/may occur according to the Student/Parent Handbook – Discipline Policy.

Question:         What if I cannot afford to purchase these items?
Answer:           You may see your Guidance Counselor for assistance in this matter. Cheney Tech has a Student Assistance Team (S.A.T.) which could provide help to students and families when in need.

Question:         How do I know what size to purchase?
Answer:           All items are sold in Adult Sizes.

Question:         May we purchase these items during the entire school year and summer?
Answer:           Yes you may purchase all year long.

Question:         How many shirts are we required to purchase?
Answer:           The amount to purchase is your choice, remember Academic Cycles generally last six (6) to nine (9) days.
