It
was just before our nation was to be thrown into an era of monumental
change. At the time of my graduation from Cheney in 1962, the
Cuban Missile Crisis, the JFK assassination, the MLK assassination,
and the Neil Armstrong walk on the moon, all were waiting in the
near future. Upon graduation I attended Hartford State Technical
Institute and then went to work at Hamilton Standard in Windsor
Locks.
My first assignment was helping to design part of the cooling
system for the Apollo backpack, followed by a similar system for
the Lunar Excursion Module (LEM), the 747 aircraft, and jet engine
fuel controls. In 1968 I took a job with GE in Burlington, VT
(working on feed mechanisms for gun systems). In 1972 I was transferred
to Greenville, SC to work on Large Gas Turbine designs. When the
gas crisis hit in 1973 I transferred to GE Space Division in Valley
Forge, PA; where my wife and I have lived ever since. In 1980
I earned my BSME at Villanova University and joined Pi Tau Sigma
National Honorary Engineering Fraternity.
While working in Valley Forge I assisted in design, test and launch
of various satellites including Landsat, GPS, DSCS, and SDI projects.
I retired in March of 2006 and have traveled extensively since.
My name is Dwaine Glidden and I’ll never forget my years
at Cheney and the solid background they provided. |
Hi
Staff and students. I graduated in the class of 1961. My name
is Russell A Wright (Albin) from the Drafting section. I want
you all to know that the training at Cheney Tech in 1961 was the
best. Why did I say that? I had a career starting as a Jr. Drafter
and worked my way up to Concept Mech/Electrical Designer/ Inventor doing
Government and Commercal work in the Semi conductor Equipment
area.
I lived and worked in the San Francisco Bay area for 35 years,
and moved to Visalia Ca. were I am retired and creating Sculpture
and printmaking. After graduating from Cheney Tech, I worked in
Hartford and then went into the Air Force, got out in 1968. I
started College going nights and finished my BFA at Santa Barbara
Art Institute with a Major in Graphic Communications and a minor
in Sculpture. |
