One
year ago, the Cheney Tech baseball team lost to Wilcox Tech of Meriden
in the Constitution State Conference championship game. This year
it was very different with Cheney Tech capturing the CSC Crown with
an impressive 5-0 victory. Cheney Tech ace Jake Merritt pitched
a one hit shutout striking out eight. Dan Lima and Josh Figueroa
got on base in the fourth with singles. Merritt then knocked in
the first run. Ryan Vieira had a two-run single and Kevin Mainville
batted in the fourth run. In the second inning, Wilcox gave up a
sacrifice fly to Ryan Jeski and that was all Cheney Tech needed.
Besides pitching the one-hitter, Merritt had two hits. Lima scored
two runs and two stolen bases.
The team finished
with a perfect 6-0 record in their division and an impressive
19-1 record overall. Four players were voted onto the Constitution
State Conference All-Conference East Team: Jake Merritt, Ryan
Jeski, Josh Figueroa, and Dan Lima. Ben Tremblay was also names
as an Honorable Mention.
