Cheney Tech Students Learn About Dangers of Tobacco
Cheney Tech Health Instructor Adam Lachendro invited Frank Smith, president of the Laryngectomee group and Al Valeri to speak to his junior classes. Both speakers did an excellent job conveying to students the dangers of not only smoking, but “dip” or chewing tobacco as well.

The harm from second hand smoke was also discussed. Many studies state that second hand smoke can be actually more harmful than directly inhaling cigarettes. The students were amazed at hearing about and seeing the dangers of tobacco and hopefully these true life examped will open the eyes of the students.
Mr. Frank Smith, president of the Laryngectomee group
Mr. Frank Smith, president of the Laryngectomee group. Mr. Smith is a complete laryngectomee and has to speak with an electrolarynx for him to be heard.
Mr. Al Valeri
Mr. Al Valeri had a partial laryngectomy and can speak without the electrolarynx.  Mr. Valeri can speak by covering the hole in his neck which traps air inside which allows him to speak.
