Tech Plumbing students have been working together with students
in the Electrical department of Windham Tech to build a Habitat
for Humanity home in Willimantic. Habitat for Humanity is a non-profit
organization that builds new homes for low-income families.
Under
the direction of Plumbing and Heating Department Head Bill Morin,
the students put in waste, venting, and drainage into
the new construction. They used 5/8 inch hepex tubing which
is a state-of-the-art material that replaces copper pipes because
it is cheaper, more pliable, and just as durable. They also put
in a gas-fired BAXI Luna
310 Fi. wall mounted combination boiler. This direct vent
boiler will provide both the heating and domestic hot water needs.
Some features and benefits of the boiler are: small space requirement,
no domestic hot water storage tank required, and modulating gas valve
and energy star rating.
