Ellis
Tech is one of the most successful schools in the State of Connecticut
for blood donatio collection sites and has been honored many times
for achieving status as a “Top-10% school in the state. Ellis
Tech's Student Council organizes and hosts two drives per year,
( September and January) with a drive sub-committee of about eight
or nine students assisting the Red Cross the entire day in the
gym. This
year we had about 70 donors, collecting 60-65 units. Mr
Palladino, an English instructor at Ellis is the advisor and driving
force behind our successful bllod donor campaigns. The
Red Cross contact, Ann Hartford, is our tireless and giving coordination
from Farmington
"The students work the publicity campaign and sign ups, the registration table, collection teams, escorts, canteen attendants, and any other role the visiting Red Cross team needs. The students work autonomously all day without any direct supervision from the student council adviser and answer to the demands of the visiting team, which are new for each revolving blood drive." says Mr Palladino.
Every drive superlatives and kudos are given to the adviser and administration about the Ellis council crew as being the most mature, the most respectful, the most knowledgeable, and the most helpful group with whom they have come into contact. It is an invaluable learning experience about team work for our students.
