Ellis Students
Attend Leadership Conference at Wesleyan University
The
CAS (Connecticut Association of Schools) sponsors a Leadership
Conference each year that involves workshops and presentations
for high school students to improve their leadership skills.
A group of students from Elis Tech were able to attend
this weekend conference. Among the presenters were Keith Hawkins,
the Keynote Speaker, who made an inspirational speech about
making positive changes in the student’s
home lives, school lives, and ultimately the world. His words
and manner of speech were motivating and students were able
to connect with him on many levels.
The students also
brought children’s books with them to the conference
and spent part of the morning working with elementary age
children. They talked with the younger students, read books
to them, and then gave the books as gifts for the children
to take the books home. On Friday night
all of the students went to a dance and had time to interact
and meet students from other schools throughout Connecticut.
On Saturday morning,
the conference continued with John Boiano from Pulse Integration
who connected with the students through music and instruments.
A diversity panel followed, in which students spoke about
their experiences coming from another country and the audience
was able to ask questions and learn from them.
Overall the Leadership
Conference was educational and fun! We look forward to attending
the conference next year!
