Ellis Tech Staff Member
Selected as Maintainer of the Year
Leo
Provost, Building Maintenance Supervisor at Ellis Tech, has been
the named the Maintainer of the Year by the Connecticut Technical
High School System.
In
1984, Leo Provost came to work at Ellis Tech as a Skilled Maintainer;
in 1997, he became Building Superintendent II; and in 2001, he
advanced to Building Maintenance Supervisor.
Ellis
Tech Principal, Dr. Brian Mignault writes the following:
“Mr.
Leo Provost is one of the most dedicated individuals that I have
had the privilege to observe. Leo has done an exceptional job in
working with the faculty, staff, and students at Ellis Tech. He
is always focused on solutions and doing good things for kids. He
can always be counted on to go above and beyond of what is normally
expected. His ability to anticipate potential problems and to motivate
his staff are two essential components that have enabled him to
keep an old and tired building operating for years beyond its life
expectancy.”
“Leo
also works collaboratively with the administration, faculty, and
staff. He tries to accommodate every request so that students have
as many opportunities as possible. He understands that school is
all about children and trying to help them maximize their abilities.
Whether it is setting up for an assembly or moving a class to a
new location (something we have had to do many times because of
building problems), Leo modifies his plans so that instructors have
the ability to teach their students.”
“I
am amazed each day as to how Leo is able to meet the many challenging
demands of maintaining our building and also having a kind word
and a friendly smile for everyone he meets.”
Leo
Provost is a life-long resident of Brooklyn, Connecticut where he
resides with his wife of 38 years, Brenda. They have two adult sons
and two grand-daughters who live nearby. Family, gardening, fishing,
and boating occupy all of his free time. His passion for fishing
is unrivaled. Leo is never without a fish story!
During
his 12 years as a volunteer with the Mortlake Fire Department, Leo
served as a First lieutenant for the department as well as an EMT.
For 13 years as the Softball Coach here at Ellis, Leo brought the
Lady Eagles to their first State Tournament Game.
Originally,
Leo owned an operated a dairy farm and later raised poultry commercially.
Every year he plants acres of vegetables and gives away most of
the produce to family and friends. Daily mechanical and structural
repairs combined with the demands of long hours and hard work are
a routine part of farming. These vital skills may be what Leo brought
with him when he came to Ellis, but 23 years later his Ellis Community
both past and present are grateful to him for so much more. We all
join in sending our hearty congratulations to you for your worthy
award and our thanks to you, Leo, for all you do.
