ELLIS TECH PFO's RELAY FOR LIFE
TEAM 2008

The 2007 Ellis Tech PFO Relay for Life team had a spectacular first year! We recruited over 100 members and rose over $10,000.00! We came together as a team and showed our dedication to the community and to helping find a cure for cancer! The actual event was just as satisfying! We got tons of exercise and spent an entire day relaxing and having fun! We ate lots of food, sat around the campfire, and supported our very own Marybeth Murdock when she won the Relay Idol! Check out pictures from last year’s event here!

The team is complete! We have 85 members working towards collecting donations to reach our goal of $12,000! We have completed 2 team fundraisers at school to help unite the team while getting the entire school involved!

Parents, family, and friends are also welcome at the Relay for Life! Chaperones, over the age of 25, will be needed for the event! The night is long, but we will do whatever we can to ensure you have a great time! Please fill out the

Chaperone agreementtand send it to Ms. Greenhalgh if you are willing to help!

The month of February was dedicated to Kiss the Pig! Mrs. Staley, Dr. Mignault, Dr. DeGray, and Mrs. Daigle all participated in the event to help raise money. The fundraiser was a HUGE success! The day turned out to be more than we bargained for! A challenge was made early in the morning for Ms. Greenhalgh to kiss the pig and ended up earning $140 more in donations! And yes, she did it! Mrs. Murray joined in on the fun as well!

The totals are as follows:
Mr. Palladino - 69 votes
Mr. DeGray - 85 votes
Dr. Mignault - 145 votes
Mrs. Daigle - 232 votes

and the winner was...
Mrs. Staley with 619 votes!

The total raised during Kiss the Pig was $427.50! Thank you to all participants and voters!

The month of March was spent collecting pennies to compete in the Penny Wars! This involved a competition between each class (freshmen, sophomore, junior, senior) and the staff. Each had a jug that needed to be filled with pennies. The jug with the most pennies wins! The twist was that anything put into the jug that is not a penny is a deduction. That means, for example, a $1 bill subtracts 100 pennies!

To all of our surprise, the lunch ladies had a secret collection and won! The breakdown for each class was:

Freshmen      1275 pennies      2120 in deductions        totaling -845
($33.95 raised)

Sophomores  1287 pennies      2570 in deductions        totaling -1283
($38.57 raised)

Juniors        2962 pennies        9750 in deductions        totaling -6788
($127.12 raised)

Seniors        257 pennies         3695 in deductions        totaling -3438
($39.52 raised)

Staff           1402 pennies         2540 in deductions        totaling -1138
($39.42 raised)

And the winners:

Lunch ladies  7000 pennies    135 in deductions        totaling 6865!!
($71.35 raised)

The total money raised from Penny Wars was $349.93! Thank you to everyone who supported the our Relay for Life team!

April will be spent selling STARS, MOONS, and RIBBONS to support our team and the American Cancer Society. Each shape costs $1 and all proceeds go to a team donation!

The team's next big adventure will be a BASKET RAFFLE, which will take place at the Relay for Life, Saturday May 17th!! If you are interested in donating a basket, please contact Ms. Greenhalgh TODAY with the theme of your basket! All baskets should be brought to school and left in Room 121 by Monday May 12th! That leaves us plenty of time to organize for the big event!

We are also in need of volunteers to help out at the basket raffle with the selling of tickets. The raffle will take place Saturday May 17th from 11am until 8pm, at which time the drawing will be held. If you can donate just one hour of your time, we would appreciate it! Contact Ms. Greenhalgh to sign up or if you have any questions!

This year's event will be a true success with YOUR help! Contact us today to donate your time and spend a weekend with the Ellis Tech Relay for Life team! We look forward to the event and hope you will spend it with us!
