Ellis
Tech Simulation Club Take Annual Trip to West Point's Point Con
Twenty-one
members of the Ellis Tech. Simulation Club returned to West Point
this Spring to attend the annual “Point-Con”, a military
game conference sponsored by the Cadet Wargames Committee. After
touring the museum and visitor center, the students had a chance
to have dinner with the cadets in Washington Hall. A tour of Trophy
Point led by cadets followed. The club set-up in a room and spent
Friday night playing games with cadets, advisors and each other.
Saturday featured 15-hours of gaming, with some club members and
cadets devoting ten hours to the Defense of Gavrus, a small town
in Normandy: the scene of battle after the breakout from the D-Day
beaches.
Club
president Staley Tichenor organized the trip with Club Advisor John
Haskell. Mr. Petricola, Ms. Audette and Ms. Tarkowski of the Ellis
Tech staff also chaperoned with Mr. van den Berg, a parent. Support
for the trip was arranged by Staff Sgt. Lamb and Sgt. First Class
Hadley of the Army’s Danielson Recruiting Station. Funding
was from the Ellis Tech. Student Council and proceeds from Ellis-Con,
the club’s game conference held in November. This was the
30th game conference held at West Point and the club has attended
the last nineteen of them. |
