Art students recently attended a field trip to downtown Essex
in order to painting in the style of Impressionism. Although the weather was poor, students managed to capture the light and composition using digital cameras or by creating sketches in their sketchbooks. They
transferred the images to canvas then painted in class.
Impressionism is a light, spontaneous manner of painting in which the artists used quick and spontaneous brushstrokes. Impressionists often found themselves painting outside in order to capture the ever changing face of nature. The most famous Impressionists were Pierre-Auguste Renior, Mary Cassatt, Edgar Degas, and Claude Monet. |
