On
Friday, January 30, 2009, the Grasso Tech Student Council sponsored
guest speaker Mr. Rajai Davis of the Oakland A’s. Mr.
Davis spoke to the students about having a dream and following
that dream and doing whatever it
takes to achieve it.
Mr.
Davis talked about receiving an offer from the Pittsburgh Pirates
to attend one of their tryouts to play
for them. He said that of course he wanted to go but only had
a limited amount of money. So with $60 in his pocket and his mother’s
car he drove for 14 hours to fulfill his dream to play major
league baseball. “Just because
you are young does not mean you can’t make things happen,” said
Davis.
Mr. Davis
attended New London High School and often goes back to work out
with his old team at practices. A popular
question that both classes asked him was, “How much do
you make a year?” His answer was “Look it up.” Mr.
Davis has worked hard to get to where he is now. He is happily
married to Marissa Davis.
Both the junior
and senior classes here at Grasso had the pleasure of meeting
Mr. Davis and were very delighted that he took time out of his
busy schedule to come speak to them. There was one thing that
Mr. Davis said to all the students: “BELIEVE. Believe
in yourself, believe in your dreams and never give up. If you work
hard towards those dreams, you can make them happen."
