Congratulations to Jamie Lamitie, Electrical instructor, who has be selected by his peers a s the 2009 Teacher of the year.
Jamie graduated from the Norwich Technical High School's electrical shop in 1993 and immediately was accepted into the IBEW Local #35 immediately upon graduation. During his twelve years of working in the trade, he became a judge in the SkillsUSA competition and served for seven years. He became a member of the faculty at Grasso Tech in September, 2005.
Mr. Lamitie says he has thoroughly enjoyed the transition from tradesperson to teacher. To have the ability to be a part of student's lives and watch them develop into productive, responsible individuals is more rewarding than any type of award. He believes, "teaching is a lifestyle, not a job."
Mr. Lamitie is very involved here at Grasso. He is currently the Student Council Advisor and has been for 2 years. He is the head coach for the Girls Basketball Team. In previous years he has been the assistant Track coach, Founder of the Home Builders Association Chapter at Grasso, and served on the Recruitment team. He was instrumental in acquiring grants for installation of a wind turbine and photovoltaic solar array at Grasso Tech which was installed by the Electrical sophomore class.
Once again, Congratulations to Mr. Jamie Lamitie, Grasso Tech's 2009 Teacher of the Year! |
