MEETING MINUTES

 

Members present: K. Bell; L. Davis; M. Delaporta; G. Fafard; C. Gauld; C. Jones; S. Matteson; J. Lamatie; A. Pesarik; L. Sprague; J. Stearns

 

Meeting called to order at 4:35 PM

  • Treasurer’s Report
    • The Cat Show made a profit of $925.50.
    • There were two returned checks for uniforms, including $10 in fees.
    • PFO balance sheet submitted and reviewed by meeting attendees.
    • J. Stearns motioned to accept the Treasurer’s Report.  C. Gauld seconded the motion.  Motion was passed unanimously.
  • Secretary’s Report
    • Minutes from Otober 9th meeting submitted and reviewed by meeting attendees.
    • J. Stearns motioned to accept the Secretary’s Report.  J. Lamatie seconded the motion.  Motion was passed unanimously.
  • Old business
    • Graduation Party (Class of 2009)—Grad Party Committee met on October 16.  Discussion included the following topics: location, entertainment, need for DJ, need to keep cost of food down.  The next meeting will be on Nov. 21.  Some parent involvement was reported.
    • School Store— Business is going well.  Uniform sales are going down, as expected.  M. Levitsky will be contacted about selling bang-sticks, “1” fingers, and pom-poms.
    • Sports Boosters—Discussion about Sports Boosters and other PFO committees included the following points:
  • More cooperation would like to be seen between committees.
  • “Sports Boosters” role within the PFO was clarified as a “sub-committee.”
  • Further discussion included the structure of the PFO and teacher/parent involvement.
  • Suggestion was made to form an exploratory committee to communicate with coaches and discuss opportunities for the role of “Sport Booster’s” in their programs.
  • Suggestion was made to recruit parent involvement at the Fall Sports Banquet.
  • “Grasso Tech” Folding Chairs-
    • $1861.00 has been raised.  After color is decided, it will take 8-10 weeks for delivery.  The PFO can purchase 36 chairs.  An estimated profit from uniform sales can cover this expense for the benefit of student-athletes.
    • Motion made for a minimum of $2100.00 to be allotted for the purchase of “Grasso Tech” folding chairs for use by student-athletes.
    • J. Stearns motioned to accept.  K. Bell seconded the motion.  Motion was passed unanimously.
  • Newsletter Discussion:
    • Would advertise give-aways at basketball games
    • Would give incentive for student/parent involvement (t-shirt or hot-dog give-aways with PFO membership).
    • Postage = $.42 x 600 newsletters
  • Athletic Clothes Discussion:
    • Company in Waterford provides for local schools—buy at this store & Grasso PFO gets an automatic donation.  J. Lamatie & A. Pesarik will contact “Sporties” about Grasso Tech athletic clothing.  This will not conflict with “Critical Signs” agreement on team uniforms.

 

IV.  Fundraisers

  • Groton Fall Festival (Oct. 11)— PFO food sales cancelled
    •  Motion to approve Fall Festival Fundraiser to support Culture Club, Class of 2009, and Class of 2011 by S. Matteson.  Seconded by J. Stearns.  Motion passed unanimously.
  • Homecoming, (11/14) —PFO will conduct food sales in cafeteria.
  • Silent Auction – item tabled.
  • New Business
    • New President—J. Stearns nominated.  J. Stearns requests changes in governing board of Grasso PFO to include committees.  Item tabled.
    • Nov. 6 Meeting—The Nov. 6 meeting time on Open House Night will be changes from 6:00 PM to 4:30 PM.
    • Faculty/Parent involvement— item tabled.
    • By-Laws/Constitution—item tabled.
  • Open to the Floor
    • Thank-you note from J. Clement (submitted to secretary)   see attached.
  • C. Gauld motions to adjourn.  J. Stearns seconds the motion.  Motion passed unanimously.
