Grasso Tech Students Receive Award for Speaking at Drinking Water Conference

The Connecticut State Department of Public Health, Drinking Water Section, honored Tyler James and Josh Rezendes of Grasso Tech for their dedication to Grasso and their willingness to share their internship experiences at a recent conference.

The Connecticut State Department of Public Health recently held a “Careers in Drinking Water” Conference.  The forum’s mission was to make students and teachers aware of the employment opportunities in the drinking water field.   The forum was held at the Farmington Club.  Attendees were treated to a talk by Eric Thornburg, CEO-Connecticut Water, who explained what his company was looking for from their future employees.  He also indicated that research has shown that nearly one half of the current water treatment plant operators will retire in the next 5 to 7 years.

Tyler James and Josh Rezendes, seniors at Grasso Southeastern Technical High School, presented a slide show on their experiences at Grasso Tech and as paid interns at various positions.  Tyler has worked with the Connecticut Department of Environmental Protection lobster restoration program and as an operator of a marine pump out station based on the Thames River at Groton’s waste water treatment plant.  Josh also worked on the lobster restoration program and in a position at Groton’s waste water treatment plant.

After graduation, Tyler will be pursuing a degree in Forensic Science at the University of New Haven.  Josh has secured a position with the New London based company, Water Planet.  This company services waste water systems throughout Connecticut.  Both Grasso Southeastern Technical High School students live in the town of Groton.
