The Computer Aided Drafting and
Design program is now utilizing a Rapid Prototyping printer, made
by Z-CORP of Boston. The machine is capable of producing three
dimensional solid parts up to 8” x
8” x 10” long.
Students can design a product using a CADD program like Inventor
or Solidworks, send the file to the Z-CORP printer, and see the
part built, layer by layer- before their eyes! Smaller parts are
constructed in as little as 15 minutes, larger parts may take four
or more hours to produce. Students then clean the parts and, if
they wish, paint them for contrast and visual interest. Use of
this machine has generated much interest with the students.
