Principal's Office

Robert Axon - PrincipalKaynor has a rich tradition of serving the Greater Waterbury Area for over fifty years. We are dedicated to providing our students with an education that combines rigorous academic study and the excitement of learning a technology. This dual education allows our students, upon graduation, the opportunity to go onto college or have the skills necessary for immediate employment. We want our students college ready and graduate with a skill, an option that can boost their prospects for success. We have a long list successful graduates in colleges as well as many graduates working in area businesses. We have alumni who are doctors, lawyers, company presidents, scientists, teachers and a mayor who benefited from this unique educational experience.

Since we take students from nine surrounding towns, we consider our school a magnet school that offers something unique and distinctive from the traditional high school setting. We have eleven trade areas for students to choose, these include the production trades of carpentry, electrical and plumbing; the service trades of hairdressing, culinary, automotive, autobody, and fashion; and technical trades like electronics, drafting and manufacturing.

High schools need to be personal, fostering an environment in which students feel well-known, supported and safe. We want students get to know their teachers and we are continually working to make Kaynor a place where our students will be happy. We are implementing a program called "Capturing Kids Hearts" and over 70 of our teachers have been trained in this program to possess the necessary skills to connect with students and improve our school climate. We have a teen leadership program that teaches our students how to connect with adults, each other, how to build relationships and be responsible.

We have high expectations for all our students and I know they can meet the demands we put upon them. Explore our web site to discover more about our school. Please feel free to contact me if you need more information.
