Only
forty students, sophomores and juniors, were selected from all regions
of Connecticut to participate in the 2008 Connecticut Youth Leadership
Forum (CT-YLP). Congratulations to Jason Lawrence, a well respected
sophomore at Kaynor who was accepted into this year's leadership program.
As
part of the application process, Jason wrote several essays on topics
including his future goals, those who have influenced him the most
in his life, and the qualities he feels a leader needs to have. As
his essays were being reviewed, Jason anxiously waited for a response.
Approximately a month later, Jason was contacted to be interviewed
and two weeks later he learned that he was selected to attend the program.
Jason said that he is very excited to be given the opportunity to participate
in the program. He will attend the forum free of charge for four days
this summer at UCONN in Storrs.
The CT-YLP provides a concentrated educational and motivational experience
for the students selected. The delegates will explore personal leadership
skills, define career goals and leave the forum with a very specific
action plan that describes what they will do back in their communities
to enhance the lives of people with disabilities. Jason will
also be required to attend follow-up sessions to implement his Community
Action Plan. |
