The Plumbing and Heating Class of 2010 students
worked in small groups installing the drainage, waste, vent, and water
supply systems for each training bathroom in shop. Traditionally the
students installed PVC (Poly vinyl chloride) for the Drainage, Waste,
and Venting (DWV) system and copper for the water supply.
Due to the absorbent cost of copper and keeping
up with industry standards we have chose to include PEX tubing into the
water piping system. All the cold water lines are installed with copper
and all the hot water supply lines are installed with PEX. Installing
copper requires a lot of fitting which increases the labor costs as well.
Installing Pex requires a manifold system that feeds each individual
fixture separately which reduces the amount of fittings and labor expense. |
