Meeting called to order at 5:38 p.m., Norwich Tech Library

 

Officers:  Dana Wynn, President – Present; Timothy Krodel, Vice-President – Present (Late); Natalie Lussier, Secretary – present; Karol Gleason, Treasurer – Present

Financial Report:  Given by Treasurer Karol Gleason.  Current Dime Savings Bank account balance:  $$15,827.29.  Total deposits for the month were $670.70; checks written and outstanding $2,521.54.

 

Received a Thank You card from Jennifer Sena.

January PFO meeting minutes were reviewed by all in attendance.  Dana Wynn motioned to accept, Natalie Lussier second motion, all in favor.  January minutes accepted.

 

Unfinished Business:

 

  1. Student of the Month:  All the winners sent Thank You cards.  The cards that were present were passed around for all to read.  The Dunkin Donuts gift cards were well received by all winners.  The students response – “This is great!”.  Dakota Main (freshman) is this month’s winner.  The bulletin board has been updated with the 2007 – 2008 winners.  Per Mrs. Hans, the Student of the Month is being sent for the web page, however, the information will be scriptic to protect the students.
  2. Boston Art Museum field trip:  Karol Gleason to speak to Ms. Hayes about the second trip previously discussed and return to the PFO on March 3rd with a clarification.  A check will need to be written for the March 20th trip for gas made out to First Student.
  3. T-Shirt Logo Contest:  The entries to the contest were reviewed and voted on by all in attendance.  The winners will be receiving a $50 gift card each.  The winners are:
    1. Ladies T-shirt design:  Jasmine Ramirez, Graphics Shop, Class of 2010

Need to add “Norwich Tech”

    1. Mens T-shirt design:  Alyssa Marie Reyes, Graphis Shop, Class of 2010.  Need to add “Norwich Tech”
  1. Car Magnet/Window Stickers:  Dana Wynn met with Prokop Signs, who did a mock up of what we could do.  She presented all items to the PFO.  There will be no set up fee.  Prices are as follows:
    1. Outside Sticker:  quantity of 250 - $1.55 each, 500 - $.89 each
    2. Magnets:  quantity of 250 - $2.56 each, 500 - $1.69 each
    3. Window clings: one color – just “Norwich Tech: quantity of 125 - $1.90 each, 250 - $1.07each, 500 - $.63 each

They would be ready within one week of ordering. 

Lori Peeples looked into samples and pricing from Camaro Signs.  They were more expensive and she liked the samples/pricing presented by Prokop.  She chose not to present.  Discussion followed on samples from Prokop.  The magnets were not liked by all.  The window stickers of the cut out “NT” were well received by all, can we add “Norwich Tech” somehow.  Dana Wynn will speak to owner about change.  Karol Gleason asked if these could be given to Class of 2008 seniors as a gift from the school.  Patty Hans also asked if they could be given to incoming freshmen at the Freshman Picnic.  This was discussed.

  1. Lacrosse Uniforms:  The uniforms have been ordered through Billings.  All that reviewed uniform samples agreed on uniform style.  Mr. Steurer and Mr.Gaffey agreed on colors.  The fitting appointment will be soon.  Uniforms to arrive 4 – 6 weeks after this.  They will be thoroughly examined and inspected by Mr. Steurer.  Once approved, the statement for the uniforms will be issued.  PFO to pay up to $3,000.00 as previously approved.
  2. Basketball Concession:  There were eight home games, ordered 19 pizzas, did a second BJ’s trip for stock $154.02.  Raised $766.76.  Student Council will purchase leftover stock at end of basketball season for cost.
  3. Golf Shirts:  J & D quoted $21 per shirt for all information; $18.00 not putting name on.  They will be Nike or other major brand of polo shirt.  Two weeks to deliver.  Approximately $186.00.  Treats Pool & Spa or John Fuller, WBMW will sponsor so the NTHS Golf Team can have new shirts for this season.  Consensus is to go with shirts with no names on it.  They will be property of NTHS.
  4. Road Race:  Presented by Mr. Kelly:  Race the previous weekend in Narragansett, RI, Mr. Hogan brought flyers to promote.  All information was taken by runners present.  Ethan Leggett came in second in his division.  Need to work on sponsors.  To date Mohegan Sun/Tribe has been approached.  Treats Pool & Spa, Big Gary’s, Montville Wine & Spirits and Bright Beginning/Kids World have committed.
  5. HOBY Awards:  Kayla Minor from the Retail Management/Entrepuenership Shop was the winner.  Kathleen White of EEE Shop was the runner up for this year’s HOBY representative for NTHS.  This is for sophomores around the US.  Faculty and staff nominated seventeen students at NTHS. The student winners were chosen after writing an essay.  PFO sponsored $150 fee for the weekend retreat.

  

New  Business:

  1. Fundraiser:  from Kirsten Nicholas presented by Patty Hans.  This is a fundraiser for all students.  Pies by PFS Co.  This is for individual student accounts.  There is a 35% profit.  Packaged by the Retail Shop students, parents to pick up.  Ms. Nicholas would like to start on 2/8/08 and end on 2/14/2008 for a delivery of 3/18/2008, in time for the Easter break.  PFS Co. willing to come in and do presentations to students at 7:30 a.m.  A clarification on what funds can be used for is needed.  Student presentations needs to be done in a better way so all students know this is going on to participate in.  Dana Wynn motioned to accept, Thomas Wainwright second motion, all in favor.  PFO to sponsor student fundraiser accepted.
  2. Class of 2009 Fundraiser:  Presented by Timothy Krodel.  Mr. Krodel asked if the PFO could sponsor two upcoming fundraisers for the Class of 2009 to be used toward the students cost of senior activities.  The first is Ultimate Beverage Fundraiser in February.  The second is Tupperware, through Maria Landry, who will do the processing, sorting and bagging.  The proceeds are 40% of the sales to be held in March.  Dana Wynn motioned to accept, Kim Passmore second motion, all in favor.  PFO to sponsor Class of 2009 fundraisers accepted.

 

Principal’s Report:

Given by Dr. Niki Menounos.  Construction on the new high school is ahead of schedule as of February 1st.  Dr. Menounos meeting with Program Manager for the move over the February vacation.  Dr. Menounos trying to work out next school year’s schedule so as not to interfere with the student’s academic/shop schedule but to give the faculty/staff time to have orientation and move to new school.  First official day at new school is January 5, 2009.

 

Dana Wynn motioned to accept the Principal’s Report, Kim Passmore second motion, all in favor.  Principal’s Report accepted.

 

Next meeting is Monday, March 2, 2008 in the Norwich Tech Library at 5:30 p.m.
