Minutes
Meeting called to order at 5:37p.m., Norwich Tech Library.
Officers: Dana

Quorum: Dana Wynn, Natalie Lussier, Karol Gleason, ; Kim Passmore, Lorraine Grillo, Kristi Munley, Ed Hogan, Sandy Nagel, David Bellinghiri, Dr. Niki Menounos, Robin Izbicki
Financial Report: Given by Treasurer Karol Gleason: Current Dime Savings Bank available balance is $15,435.81. There is a thirty cent difference between our balance and the bank to our favor. Last month’s available balance (October, 2007) was $12397.56. There were three checks written totaling $100 and a deposit was made for $65.00. A
stop payment was placed on the check to Clinton Sports Shop in
the amount of $3000.00.
Dana Wynn made motion to accept, Kim Passmore 2nd the motion, all were in favor, none opposed.
Old
Business:
- Lacrosse Uniforms: The deadline for Clinton Sports Shop came and went to produce the correct Lacrosse Uniforms ordered. A stop payment was issued on the check. The Connecticut Better Business Bureau was contacted regarding the issue. Mr. Gaffey and Mr. Stuerer will be meeting in the near future to review and order new uniforms for the 2007 – 2008
season.
- Student Council Update: The Candy sale is going very well. A
full accounting will be presented at the next PFO meeting.
- PFO Scholarship: A committee has been formed of Tricia Mulchmeck, Tim Krodel and Dr. Menounos. The committee will review all students referred for the scholarships. The committee will bring to the PFO Executive Committee their selection for the scholarships, up to $500. Final selection to be determined by the PFO Executive Committee. Dana
Wynn made motion to accept; Kim Passmore 2nd the motion,
all were in favor, none opposed.
- Dark Manor Fundraiser:
This was a huge success. The final numbers will
be presented at the next meeting.
- Road Race: It was discussed the options on putting together the road race and whether to do ourselves or bring an outside company. Ed Hogan and Dana Wynn brought to the table an organization (The Last Mile Racing – www.thelastmileracing.com) that puts road races together. There was discussion on who they are; what they do and packages they offer. This organization will run everything. The date of the race was also discussed. It was decided on for Saturday, May 31, 2008, at Mohegan Park in Norwich and hiring The Last Mile Racing for the complete package of $650.00. Natalie
Lussier made motion to accept; Dana Wynn 2nd the motion;
all were in favor, none opposed.
Other
items discussed were the use of the Pavilion at Mohegan Park,
which will cost $125 for the day. Also, discussed were
the following, which were tabled until future meetings, when
more information was gathered:
Emergency Response Team either with Taftville Fire Department or American Ambulance;
Norwich Police Department being on patrol and the different options and rules that would be in place.
- Basket Raffle: Dana
Wynn had received the paperwork to receive a
Permit
to put on a basket raffle from the Department of Revenue. Three members, registered voters and residents of the City of Norwich, must be the signers on the permit. Those three must be in attendance at the basket raffle with a name tag. Only adults are allowed to purchase tickets. David
Bellinghiri volunteered to be the Chairman of the event.
This is a
PFO sponsored event with a tentative date of Friday, February
29th. The Retail Shop will be assisting in the packaging of the baskets. No basket can have a value of over $100, no gift cards, no gift certificates and no alcohol. Any
of these items donated will go towards a silent auction.
- DPW Meeting: Dana
Wynn has been playing phone tag with the
gentleman
from the State of Connecticut, Department of Public Works. He is willing to meet with the PFO. A
date, time and place will be determined soon.
New Business:
- HOBY Sponsorship – Ms. Hans has asked for the PFO to sponsor the 2008 HOBY ambassador at a cost of $150.00. Past ambassadors were present (Mason Smith – 2006, Shea Ryan – 2007) to speak about the advantages, experiences and what they thought they brought back to the school from attending. Hartford Jaycees sponsors the yearly event and the amount requested goes towards helping offset this. Karol
Gleason made motion to accept, Natalie Lussier 2nd the
motion, all were in favor, none opposed.
- Art Trip in spring – it was announced that the First Student Bus Co in Norwich has agreed to provide the buses to bring the art students to a museum with Ms. Munley. Karol
Gleason is donating her time to drive. Dana Wynn suggested
the students look into fundraising if a second bus is needed
to help offset the cost.
- Karol Gleason informed the PFO about five students who volunteered their time on Saturday, November 3rd , along with herself, collecting donations for the Vet Center in Jewett City. A total of $150.00 was donated that will go towards helping 15 families in the Jewett City area. The list of students will be provided by the next meeting.
- Basketball Media Guide – Mr. John Saporita, boy’s basketball head coach, has requested the PFO to sponsor a Basketball Media Guide to be sold at boy’s basketball home games. The money raised will go towards new sports equipment, uniforms, warm-ups. It was discussed and decided to put a full page ad in the media guide for $200. Natalie
Lussier made motion to accept, Sandy Nagel 2nd the motion,
all were in favor, none opposed.
- PFO Concession – Dana Wynn and Kim Passmore requested that a check be issued up to $500.00 for the initial funding for the 2007 – 2008 PFO Concession. This would be used for the purchase of candy, drinks, cash box, cooler, etc. Dr. Menounos will look into getting an extra key to the store room. Mr. Gaffey is working on an arrangement with Mr. Pizza for pizza to be supplied to all home basketball games. Dana
Wynn made motion to accept the issuance of $500 start up
check, Kim Passmore 2nd the motion, all were in favor,
none opposed.
- AED Legislation: Dana Wynn brought forth a petition for everyone to sign and pass along. The legislation is for AED units to be at all sporting events. All
members present signed petition.
Principal’s
Report:
- Open House was a success. Next year’s
Fall Open House will be held at the new school.
- MaryEllen LaVeche has been hired as the interim school psychologist.
- Upcoming events:

Sports Banquet
- November 28th -
NHS Induction
- A hypnotist will be
coming, this is a senior class fundraiser. Also “Hats for Cancer” wear
students pay to wear hats.
- The Phone Messenger is working.
- Dr. Menounos is in the
ordering stage for the interior of the new school. Culinary will start up next year and will not be delayed for another year due to the delay of moving into the new school. It
will be a Phase II Exploratory.
