Emmett O'Brien's Teacher of the Year Selected

Chris SansoneChris Sansone moves at a pace faster than the speed of sound.  At the end of a school day his students can catch a glimpse of the dust settling.  This energetic instructor races about the Capentry shop focused on crossing the finishing line a sure fire winner. Multitasking was probably invented with Mr. Sansone in mind, and rumor has it that the energizer bunny took lessons from him.

Emmett O'Brien's Teacher of the Year Christopher Sansone exhibits a strong affininty for his community and an unwavering concern for his students. He is also enthusiastic and excited about his new title of Teacher of the Year.  "I feel honored to have been selected by my peers.  I am also honored to have graduated from Emmett O'Brien and to have returned as an instructor."

A strong influence in Chris Sansone's life was his father, Christopher F. Sansone Sr., who taught at Bullard-Havens and took on the role of Chris' first carpentry teacher.  The impact of watching his father's career unfold led Chris to a decision that would ultimately lead him to become an instructor at Emmett O'Brien Technical High School.

A mosaic panorama is one way to describe Chris' career.  He has taught for twenty-two years.  Twelve at Bullard-Havens and ten at Emmett O'Brien. Chris has a Corain and USG certification. He enjoys being back in Ansonia and says, "It's nice to be teaching in my hometown."

Chris Sansone has been Class Advisor, Yearbook Advisor, Assistant Track Coach, Assistant Softball Coach, Assistant Volleyball Coach, and a Best Mentor.  Two programs long championed by Mr. Sansone are Toys for Tots and the Special Olympics.

In addition to his instructional career, Chris has been a twenty-seven year member of the Ansonia Fire Department.  He trained others, led as an officer and was promoted to Captain.

President Jimmy Carter's challenge to participate in Habitat for Humanity was taken up by Chris, and the world of technology found him diving into the New Haven Public School System's Robotics Program.

Surprisingly Chris had time left over to take on the position of Little League Baseball Coach and to instruct youngsters at the YMCA as Basketball Coach.

According to Chris Sansone one of his thrills is unexpectedly meeting graduates who tell him they own their own Carpentry Business or are working in the Carpentry Trade.

It is an Olympic feat to get Mr. Sansone to sit still.  His peers have learned to speed walk alongside him and are left amazed at what can be accomplished by simply moving.
