Our
mission and who are we and what do we do?
The Mission
of the O'Brien Technical High School Parent Faculty Association
is:
- To assist
parents of teens in developing the skills and locating the resources
they need to educate and protect their children;
- To encourage
parent and public involvement in the school.
For those
of you who are not familiar with the P.F.O, we'd like to introduce
ourselves. We are a group of dedicated parents, assisted by a
few faculty members, who raise money for EOB students by organizing
fund-raisers such as our ziti dinner and annual card party/raffle.
We also regularly schedule guest and/or community speakers to
present valuable and timely information to parents.
How
is the money given back to the students?
The proceeds
of our fund-raising activities are funneled back to the students
in several ways. One of our priorities is to help students in
need. In the past, we have purchased culinary kits, work boots,
uniforms and toolkits for students whose parents were unable to
buy those items due to financial constraints.
We have also
made donations to our sports teams and cheerleaders for uniforms
and equipment.
We also provide
approximately 25 monetary awards that are given out at the annual
Awards Ceremony. The recipients of these awards are chosen by
their trade teachers as either having shown the most improvement
or outstanding commitment in their trade.
If
my son/daughter decides to attend EOB next year, how do I join
the P.F.O.?
It's easy!
We generally hold our meetings on the second Tuesday of each month
at 7:00 pm in the Staff Dining Room. This is when we plan our
upcoming activities and fund - raisers, vote on funds to be dispersed,
and discuss what's going on in school (all those things your son/daughter
doesn't tell you about!) Call the school office to find out when
the next meeting will take place, or send a note to the office
asking for a P.F.O. member to contact you. Your participation
in the P.F.O. will show your son/daughter how much you care about
them by being involved in school activities and making their high
school years a successful experience. There are no prerequisites
required and everyone is welcome! We hope to see many new members
in the coming years!
