EOB Student Goes on People to People Trip

Lloyd Hummel student ambassador for the United States of America.

Yes, you read this correctly. Lloyd, a Junior in the Electrical department of Emmett O'Brien was a student ambassador this summer to Greece, Italy, and France. He spent the months leading up to the trip becoming familiar with the countries he was to visit and getting to know the other students he would be traveling with. Within his group were students from Connecticut, california and Vermont.

His days were busy with travel and sightseeing. He was able to visit: downtown Athens, the Parthenon, and shop in Plaka before visiting the wildlife refuge and Epidaurus Theater in Greece. Visiting the Olympic Stadium entailed a long journey, but enabled him to see the site of the first Olympic games. "Hiking Mt. Vesuvius was perhaps the most intense part of my whole trip. It was very cool to see the active volcano that was responsible for the destruction (and preservation) of Popeii up close." said Lloyd.

He was able to go on a guided tour of the Vatican, Sistine chapel and St. Peter's Cathedral while visiting Italy. Visiting the American Cemetery and the Fossoli Transit Camp was a somber event as they honored the almost 4000 American soldiers that were killed in WWII.

"France was full of masterful artwork such as the works of Michaelangelo's sculpture of David in the museum of l'academia, the Duomo, a beautiful gothic style cathedral and the leaning tower of Pisa. Of course the Notre dame cathedral and the Eiffel tower were a spectacular sight in Paris." said Lloyd.

Below Lloyd shared a few pictures from his trip:
