Statement of Philosophy
The Platt Technical High School Counseling program
is a comprehensive design that aligns with the Connecticut Technical
High Schools, Connecticut’s Common Core of Learning and the
American School Counselor Association (ASCA) National Standards
for School Counseling Programs. Developmental in nature,
each student will develop his/her individual potential in the areas
of academic, social-emotional /personal and vocational development. The
counseling program is an integral part of the total educational
program through which students prepare for meaningful and rewarding
lives as productive members of an ever-changing society. Counselors
will function in a variety of capacities including: counselor,
consultant, teacher, and role model. Counselors work as a
team member in conjunction with teachers, administrators, parents
and community members to assist students in the achievement of
their individual goals.
