How do I know which technology to choose?
As an incoming ninth grader, you are not expected to know which
technology is best for you. Therefore all ninth graders complete
a Three Phase Exploratory Program. Phase One allows them to spend
three days in each of our fourteen technology offerings. Students
will choose three technologies for the Phase Two process and will
be scheduled to each technology for six days. Phase Three completes
the Exploratory Program, with students selecting their permanent
technology.

What does it cost to attend?
There is no charge for residents of Connecticut to attend our school.
The only items ninth graders may need to purchase are safety glasses,
rulers, and safety shoes.

Are there buses to Platt from my town?
All the local towns provide transportation to Platt. Check with
your local school system for specific times and pick-up points.

How do I apply to Platt Tech?
First, you must fill out an application form, available at your
sending school or in the guidance office at Platt Tech. Second,
you must take the 7th grade Connecticut Mastery Test (most students
will have taken this at their local school). Students at non-public
schools and special education students who have been exempt from
taking the mastery test can take Platt Tech's admission test in
early fall. Third, we will look at your seventh and eighth grade
attendance and grades.

If my son/daughter does not like a technical school program, is
it possible for them to transfer back into a regular high school?
Students have the option of transferring back to their area high
school program at any time.
8.
Is the school accredited by the New England Association of Schools
and Colleges?
Yes, Platt Tech completed a successful 10 year evaluation review
and will be reevaluated in 2009.
9.
Will my son/daughter have the opportunity to take courses that will
prepare him/her for college entrance?
Yes, for each academic subject taught, there are top level classes
offered for students who possess both the academic capabilities
and/or have the desire to continue their education beyond high school.

What is the enrollment ratio of boys to girls?
At Platt Tech, females represent approximately 35% of the total
grade 9-12 population. Also every technology currently has at least
one female enrolled.

What extra-curricular activities are available?
The Student Council sponsors several school-wide dances each year,
and there are class sponsored activities including fund raising
activities, class trips, and proms. Also listed below are just a

Who is responsible for providing transportation?
Sending towns are responsible for providing transportation to and
from their area tech school.
14.
How much time is spent in technology as opposed to academic classes?
All students spend 91 days in their respective technology, as well
as 91 days in their academic classes.
15.
Are all teachers employed in the technical schools certified?
Yes, all instructors employed in the technical schools
are certified by the State Department of Education.
16.
What kind of careers do students enter after graduation?
The majority of the graduates at Platt Tech still pursue their respective
trade upon graduation. Some may choose college or the Military,
while others may consider another line of employment. However, the
advantage of a technical education is that students will graduate
with several options at their disposal.

Can I have a tour of the school during the school day?
Yes, the School Counseling Department encourages area schools to
schedule visits: individuals interested can request and expect to

18.
Are there special programs for those who want to cross stereo-typed
career lines--a young woman who wants to become a mechanic or a
young man who wants to become a cosmetologist?
During the exploratory phase of our programs, the technology instructors
encourage both males and females to consider all respective technologies
regardless of stereo-typed career lines. That philosophy is also
shared and emphasized by both school counselors and instructors
during their contacts with all students.
19.
What are the class sizes like in the academic classes, as well as
in the technologies?
Maximum academic class sizes vary from 25 to 30 students per class
depending upon the student's grade level. However classes are generally
not filled to a maximum level. The maximum technology class size
is 18 students.
20.
Does the school have a monitoring system for past graduates?
Each year the guidance department surveys the previous year's graduates
regarding their current employment situation. This information is
compiled and is available to anyone upon request. |
