Mission
Statement
The
mission of the Connecticut Technical High School System is to provide
a unique and rigorous high school learning environment that:
- ensures both
student academic success, and trade/technology mastery and instills
a zest for lifelong learning;
- prepares students
for post-secondary education, including apprenticeships, and immediate
productive employment; and
- responds to
employers' and industries' current and emerging and changing global
workforce needs and expectations through business/school partnership.
Philosophy
and Goals
The philosophy of Platt Technical
High School focuses on preparing each student to enter a skilled occupational
area. Classroom theory and shop practice in the needed competencies
are reinforced and enhanced by real world work experiences. Platt also
provides each student with the needed sills and knowledge to fulfill
the requirements of the State of Connecticut for a high school diploma
in the traditional classroom setting.
Good citizenship, as well as social, economic
and political awareness are stressed in the classroom, shop and ancillary
areas. Platt recognizes that students learn in different ways. Individual
student needs are met wherever and whenever possible through scheduling,
class size, team teaching and other methods.
Recognizing the need for
continuing education, Platt additionally offers 2 Post Graduate programs
within the school. These programs are open to candidates with a high
school diploma or GED.
The goals of Platt Technical High School acknowledges individual differences
and the need to accommodate them. They also take into consideration
the need to provide students with instruction suitable to their academic,
social, emotional an physical levels of development. Our goals are as
follows:
- To provide trade instruction which enables
students to become productive members of society.
- To provide the academic skills necessary
to fulfill the requirements for a Connecticut high school diploma.
- To prepare the students for the technical
challenges of the future.
- To assist students in working toward
a solution for any problems they may encounter through their high
school years.
- To provide the students with social
and economic skills which enhance their education endeavors and
- To provide a safe environment that fosters
good citizenship.
Standard
Policy Statement
It is the policy of the Connecticut
State Board of Education that no person shall be excluded from participating
in, denied benefits of, or otherwise discriminated against under any
program, including employment, because of race, color, religious creed,
sex, age, national origin, ancestry, marital status, sexual orientation,
mental retardation and passed-present history of mental disorder, learning
disability and physical disability.
