| In
October, Platt Tech held an assembly to celebrate Hispanic Heritage
month. Sponsored by the Platt Tech Student Diversity team, the assembly
featured singing and dancing as well as a multimedia presentation
showing the history of 17 Hispanic countries in the Carribean and
Centra and South America. The guest of honor was Superior Court
Judge Eddie Rodriguez Jr. who spoke about the importance of knowing
about your own cultural background and the contributions that cultures
from around the world have made to American society. Platt Tech
students and the Organization of Latin American Students from Southern
Connecticut State University performed a variety of high energy
Latin American dances including salsa and the cha-cha. Suzette Montanez,
one of the advisors for the Platt Tech Student Diversity Team, said
that they are planning to have activities for six different months
focusing on Hispanics, American Indians, Black History, Women's
History, Gay Awareness and Asian-Americans. Many students enjoyed
the presentation and said they were looking forward to the other
activities that will take place during this school year.
