Platt Tech Staff Members Honored for Educational
Excellence
Platt Tech's own Principal Gene Laporta
and English instructor Tony Tom were recently honored for their
dedication and commitment to education. Laporta was named the
Principal of the Year for the Connecticut Technical High School
System (CTHSS). Each year the CTHSS selects a Principal who is
recognized for their outstanding leadership as an administrator.
Platt
Tech was recently selected as a Vanguard school by the Connecticut
Vanguard Schools Initiative. The initiative is a public/private
partnership formed in 2004 between the Connecticut Department of
Education and the Connecticut Business and Industry Association
(CBIA) Education Foundation. Each year, the program designates
special status to schools that demonstrate high performance. Platt
was one of only four schools in the state named a Vanguard school
this year and only the second high school to receive this honor.
English instructor Tony Tom also was
recently honored receiving the Claes Nobel Educator of Distinction
Award from the National Society of High School Scholars (NSHSS).
The award is given to instructors who have made a lasting difference
in their classrooms by encouraging students to strive for excellence.
Congratulations Mr. Laporta and Mr.
Tom.
