Prince Tech Scores Late to Beat Bullard-Havens

The Prince Tech Football Falcons evened their season record at 1-1 with an exciting come-from-behind victory over the defending CSC Champion Bullard-Havens Tigers Sunday afternoon at a muggy Cheney Tech field.  The game was moved from Saturday night due to the inclement weather this weekend.

Prince Tech got on the board first when the snap from center on a Bullard-Havens punt sailed over the punter’s head and thru the end zone for a safety.  The 2-0 lead was short lived when the Falcons had a miscue in their own kicking game and a blocked punt lead to a short 18-yard drive capped by Quarterback Lorens Wilson’s 9-yard run to paydirt.  The conversion pass fell incomplete and the Tigers lead 6-2 at intermission.

Prince Tech scored in the third quarter on a 7-yard run by Junior Henry Meneses.  The conversion run by Sophomore Kevin Manning gave the Falcons a 10-6 lead going into the fourth quarter.

A beautifully executed long pass from BH’s Lorens Wilson to speedy wide receiver Corey Roberts from 38 yards out put the visitors on top 12-10.  Once again the conversion run by Wilson failed on a jarring tackle by Senior Cornerback Vincent Harrison just short of the goal line.

This lead would last until the never-say-die Falcons started their final drive from their own 47 with 2:47 remaining.  A 22-yard Vincent Harrison run started the drive and the Falcons quickly moved to the BH 7 yard line where the drive stalled.  After a “delay of game” penalty pushed the ball back to the 12 on fourth down with 26 seconds left, Sophomore Miguel Santiago skirted the right end on a pass/run option and went in untouched setting off a wild celebration with 19.4 seconds on the clock.  After a penalty for celebration and an offsides by Bullard-Havens, Kevin Manning found Junior Tight End Marquez Palmer at the goal line and the conversion was good giving the Falcons the final 18-12 margin.

Kevin Manning rushed for 92 yards on 18 attempts and Miguel Santiago added 81 on 17 carries to lead Prince, now 1-0 in the Constitution State Conference.  Manning also was 6-12 passing for 75 yards.

The Falcons host the Middletown Blue Dragons of the Nutmeg Football League Saturday, October 4 at Hartford’s Dillon Stadium.  Kickoff is 6:30 PM.
