On
Friday, January 16, 2009, SkillsUSA hosted the third blood drive
of the year. The SkillsUSA officers and advisors were very excited, and optimistic with 104 appointments scheduled, making this the largest number of donors willing to donate. Illness and absenteeism prevented this from being the largest blood drive Vinal Tech has held and only 65 pints of blood was successfully collected. This was still considered hugely successful by the American Red Cross because we are in the midst of the cold and flu season and in spite of those odds, SkillsUSA still managed to collect enough pints to meet its goal. Since the first blood drive of the school year was held on September 25, 2008, 183 pints of blood have been collected saving 549 lives. The last blood drive of the school year will be held on March 18, 2009. Parents, friends and family members may email Mrs. Leahy if they would like schedule an appointment to donate blood at the last blood drive. Vinal
Tech SkillsUSA would like to thank the students for stepping
up to the challenge and also to the following staff members for
donating blood.
