On
Friday, March 28, 2008, sixty-five Vinal Tech SkillsUSA competitors
arrived to begin their day of competition, camaraderie and fun. Vinal
Tech was the host school this year so it made it slightly easier
on the competitors to arrive at the time they were asked by advisors
Bill Balch and Michele Leahy. Students sighed and complained
some when they were asked to arrive at a bright and early 7 a.m.
but believe it or not…they were all there…on time
and ready to compete!!
The
day was full of activities…competition, lunch, entertainment,
pizza party, awards ceremony…it was an exhausting day. But
when it was all over Vinal Tech once again, was left with a sizable
list of accomplishments and awards. Seventeen students
will be representing the State of Connecticut and Vinal Tech
at the National Leadership and Skills Conference in June. The
students who competed did an outstanding job representing Vinal
Tech and we are proud of every one who participated.
A
special thank you goes to the 20 students who represented our
Courtesy Corps volunteers. Throughout the day, advisors
Bill Balch and Michele Leahy received many compliments from judges,
Central Office and the CT SkillsUSA Executive Board on the students
who volunteered their time. The student volunteers were
so helpful and they are excited to participate again next year.
Most of the volunteers are planning to compete next year now
that the "competition bug" has bit them!
