After
a year long process for recertification, the Automotive Technology
department at Eli Whitney has received their NATEF Master Certification
again. Eli Whitney first became a NATEF Master Certified in the mid 1990’s at that time we were the first high school in the state of Connecticut to receive this title and second high school in the United States. Eli
Whitney is one of five schools certified by NATEF and is still
the only high school in the state of Connecticut to be NATEF
Master Certified.
NATEF
which stands for, the National Automotive Technicians Education
Foundation, is an independent, non-profit organization founded
in 1983 whose only goal is: To evaluate technician training programs
against standards developed by the automotive industry and recommend
qualifying programs for certification (accreditation) by ASE,
the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence.
The NATEF process has resulted in certified automotive training programs in all fifty states at the secondary and post-secondary levels. NATEF also evaluates the providers of in-service technician training programs under a program called Continuing Automotive Service Education (CASE).
To become certified high schools are required only to cover Brakes, Electrical/Electronic Systems, Engine Performance, and Suspension & Steering, but to receive Master Certification designation; all eight areas must be included.
The Eight automotive areas for certification are: Engine Repair, Brakes, Automatic Transmission & Transaxle, Manual Drive Train & Axles, Suspension & Steering, Electrical/Electronic Systems, Heating and Air Conditioning, and Engine Performance. We are truly proud of the excellence represented by our automotive technology instructors and students. |
