On Friday September 11, 2009, Mr. Eric Hilversum, Dean of Students, met with all our school’s
juniors to discuss how the Job Shadowing and Work Based Learning
(WBL) programs provide employment and trade experiences for upperclassmen.
The activity was coordinated by Mrs. Sneed and the rest of the
Career Development teachers.
The Job Shadowing program allows
students to visit employers in their trade to observe their daily
trade work routines. Students are required to interview their
mentors and complete a reflection packet that includes an essay
explaining what they learned during the visit.
The Work Based Learning (WBL) program allows students to work during shop school hours, get paid and gain school credit. Seniors are allowed to work up to 21 hours per week. Juniors are allowed to work up to 14 hours per week during shop cycles. Employers evaluate student performance and work with shop instructors to develop student learning projects.
Additional information about these and other programs can be found on the Business and School Partnerships page of our website. |
