Hispanic
Heritage month is celebrated from September
15 to October 15 each year. The purpose is to honor the diverse
people of Spanish-speaking backgrounds who have come to the
United States from more than 20 countries.
This
year, a group of students were very eager to have an assembly
where they could exhibit their culture and show their talents. The
masters of ceremony, Adrienne Rios and Gonzalo Barahona,
did an excellent job presenting our performers and welcoming
our guests. In addition, a number of staff and students
worked behind the scene to ensure the assembly’s success.
Among
our guests were some of our talented Eli alumni such as Jessica
and Jose Rios who peformed some excting dance numbers. We
also had Luis “El
Timbalero” Rivera. This young man has such a
passion for music that today he offers private classes in
numerous instruments. We also had the pleasure to
listen to Archie Negron and his trio playing ethnic instruments
such as the “güiro,” “ tambora,” and “el
cuatro.”
In all, our performers and our guests were great and we truly hope that we can have a bigger celebration next year. |
