On, October
3rd Eli Whitney SkillsUSA students visited Brooksvale Park in
Hamden. They took a path through the state forest, and had a
mission to locate several items and remove them from the forest. The
first item was an abandoned motor cycle, the second item was
a raggedy old Refrigerator, and the third and final item was
and old metal swing set from the 1970’s.
The students seemed a little hesitant about walking into this
wooded area. As they began, too locate certain markers that were
on their path they started to get excited. The entire trip gave
the students the chance to practice teamwork, solve problems
and complete a given task.
As the students traveled through the trails, they were able to discuss different plans they felt were appropriate for volunteer and community services. They all agreed that they were off to a good start and could not wait to create more activities for the rest of the school year. Making a difference in today’s society seems to be the goal. When asked “How did the project go?” All students responded in a positive manner and spoke of how great the task was. The day left such an impression on these young adults that they said they would not hesitate to do it again. |
