Eli
Whitney’s National Honor Society and some additional members
of the Junior class recently completed a service learning project
designed to benefit the greater New Haven Community. Special
Education instructor, Pat Ripley received funding for the project
through the Donors Choose organization. This organization
lists teacher’s projects and classroom needs on the web and
allows donors to choose to fund a project of their choice. Mrs.
Ripley received enough fleece material to complete six blankets
that will be distributed to children in local hospitals.
Students
that participated earned credit for volunteer service. Mrs.
Ripley documented the project in photos. Thank you letters
were written by the participants and returned to DonorsChoose.org. “All
in all, it was an easy process to make something good happen
for our students”, Mrs. Ripley said. She continued, “It
gave students a safe place to do volunteer service, and taught
them some new skills at the same time”.
We at Eli
Whitney would like to offer, our most sincere thanks to Mr. Parsons,
who we don’t know in person, but who helped touch more
peoples’ lives
than he will ever know. |
