Amber Lassiter is currently a sophomore student at Wilcox in the Information Systems Technology trade area. She is involved in several activities and programs both in and out of school. One program in particular she is most proud to be involved in is D.A.R.E. (Drug Abuse Resistance Education). IN 2006, Amber abe lincoln memorialwas elected by the Meriden police department to be the state representative for D.A.R.E. and sits on their youth advisory board.

Amber is proud to be a role model for other kids.“This is a great opportunity for me to speak to others about abuse and I really enjoy speaking to elementary school kids the best!”, she says.

This past fall Amber was given the opportunity to attend the D.A.R.E. conference held in Washington D.C. “It was amazing! I got to train with F.B.I. agents, talk with them, train just as they do for work in the field”. Amber also liked being able to dress in the official F.B.I. uniform, speak to members of the Drug Enforcement Agency (D.E.A.), and shoot real guns in their training facility. “I couldn’t believe the D.E.A. has a museum of all types of drugs and materials addicts use. The agents use the museum for reference and we got to go in. Obviously it is not a museum open to the public so I feel special I got to go in and see it!”

Amber plans on attending college someday and because of this program it has helped her to solidify her plans to major in Criminal Law.
