Windham Tech softball team finished its season with 15 wins (a school
record) and 6 losses. The team dominated the East Central division
of the CSC with an 8-0 record and lost in the semi-finals of the
CSC league tournament to Kaynor Tech who went on to win the CSC
Championship.
Junior Jessica Riera (2nd team All-CSC) led the team in bunting,
runs scored and hitting with a .433 batting average. Sarah Legere
(1st team All-CSC) set a school record for pitching victories with
12. Backing up Sarah was Krystina Gagnon who earned two victories
of her own and also recorded a save.
This year’s team battled through many injuries and showed
adaptability and resilience with many players filling in at several
positions. The seniors this year were Nicole White-Caspoli (1st
team All-CSC) who captained the infield at third base, Katie Desautels
who captained the outfield in right field and Ashley Konarski at
catcher. Lisette Morales served in left field and as catcher. Amy
Arriaga showed a great ability to adapt to the teams needs playing
short, third and second, while Vicky Knight anchored the infield
at first base with consistent play all season.
Freshman Kelli Simmons earned a starting spot at short stop and
ended up with the second highest batting average on the team at
.392. Jen Anderson finished the season patrolling center field showcasing
her great arm several times on pinpoint throws to home and finishing
the season with a very hot bat. Outfielder Jessica Hooper, known
for her aggressive base running, played center and left but her
season was cut short due to illness. And finally, newcomer Nicole
Navarro served the team well as a pinch runner and utility infielder.
