The
2008 Windham Tech Volleyball team had a lot to live up to following
the impressive 2007 season whose record was 16-2. To add more
pressure this year’s team had to deal with a change in
coaching staff as School Social Worker, Elizabeth Scheff, took
over as head coach and Library Media Specialist, Kelly Martin,
became the assistant coach. With one returning starter the season
promised to be one of rebuilding. “I did not know really
what to expect”, said Coach Scheff. “I figure this
year would be a lot of trial and error as I figured out what
worked and what didn’t”.
What
ever it was, it worked.
The
Lady Tigers finished with an impressive 14-4 season record and
17-6 over all record. “We not only met the same goals as
last year’s team, we surpassed them”. The 2008 team
made it to the CSC Conference finals where they fell to Grasso
tech, (who gave WTHS two of their season losses). In addition
this year’s team made it to the quarter finals of the CIASC
Class S state tournament, where they took on the five time state
champions’ Coventry High school. “It was not even
a close game, but it was a fun game and we were honored to be
playing such an incredible team”, said Coach Scheff. See

This
year’s success goes in large part to the tri-captains who
led the girls all the way with their optimism and strength. Tri-Captains
Aissia Allison and Crystal Nieves made 1st Team All- League Constitution
State Conference, while other tri-captain Brittany Burke made
2nd Team. Together with remaining seniors Saira Valentin and
Nicole Navarro the seniors fostered an environment of respect
and determination. |
