CT Street Croozers came to Windham Technical High School for its first annual car show extravaganza! http://www.ct-streetcroozers.com/TechSchool.htm
Windham Technical High School and
the CT Street Croozers held their first annual Car Show on
Saturday, October 11, 2008 in the school’s parking lot on Birch Street in Willimantic. “We far exceeded our initial goal” said Glenn Keegan show organizer and PFO member. “When we first came up with the idea of having a car show we were hoping to bring in 50 or 60 cars, but when we contacted the CT Street Croozers and they became involved, they had much higher expectations” said Keegan. The CT Street Croozers had a goal of 100 cars. According
to Keegan, it was the combination of good weather and the hard
work of the Windham Tech PFO that brought in 125 cars.
One hundred and twenty five cars from all over the State, representing numerous hot rods, corvettes, antique cars, trucks and more participated. With the success of this year’s event, show organizers, Glenn Keegan, CT Street Croozers, and the Windham Tech Auto Department are already thinking about their plans for 2009. Keegan stated that he will put a strong effort into bringing more local businesses to the show for next year such as TSI Harley Davidson and Columbia Ford along with others. Keegan
anticipates an even more successful car show next year, with
a goal of two hundred cars, trucks, corvettes and motorcycles
in 2009.
Mr.
Keegan would like to give special thanks to Windham Tech’s Culinary Arts Department “the day would not have been such a success without the help of Chef Dunnack and the Culinary Arts Department.” In addition to viewing all of the fabulous cars at the show, everyone took time to enjoy the wide variety of foods offered from the Culinary Arts Department. The menu was extensive and offered such fare as hamburgers, cheeseburgers, hot dogs, chili dogs, French fries, fried dough, corn chowder in a bread boule, clam fritters, corn fritters with maple syrup and more. The Culinary Arts Department also had a bake sale which consisted of massive chocolate chip cookies, decadent brownies, and pies; so many wonderful pies such as chocolate cream, banana cream, apple, and walnut, just to mention a few. A
dining area was set up with tables and chairs which boasted
a fall theme for everyone to take time to sit, relax and enjoy
some great food at great prices.
The
following shops at Windham Tech also contributed to make this
event such a success: the Electronics Shop provided the sound
system, the Carpentry Shop made Adirondack deck chairs, the
Manufacturing Technology Shop made dash plaques which were
given to the first 50 cars that entered the show, and members
of the Windham Tech P.F.O. were ready and willing to do whatever
was needed the entire day. The area’s local radio
station, WILI, provided a live feed for music and broadcasts.
Trophies were awarded to vehicle owners in various categories.
Mr.
Keegan would also like to thank the dealers that participated
in the show: Scott Lewis from Capital Garage, Kenny Champagne from Champagne Chevrolet and Chic Shifrin from Columbia Car Care and Marine. Capital Garage brought six new vehicles to the event and made a donation. Champagne Chevrolet made a donation. Columbia
Car Care and Marine brought two new boats to the event.
If
you missed this wonderful event, please be sure to come out
and attend Windham Tech’s 2nd Annual Car Show in 2009!
