Class
of 2011 Manufacturing
Technology students embarked on project to machine and build
three arbor presses. An arbor press is a device that is used
to press objects together or force them apart. Typical arbor
press applications include pressing bearings into gears or pulleys,
pressing gears or pulleys onto shafts, and pressing alignment
pins into fixtures.
The
work was machined using computer numerical controlled (CNC) turning
and milling machinery up to 4 axis. Design and programming was
generated using CAD/CAM software, combined with conversational
and long hand G-code applications.
Students will next use our CAD software to make detailed engineering drawings of each part. Along with a bill of materials and fixturing these arbor presses will become an 11th grade project that every student will make. |
