The
Oliver Wolcott Athletic Department follows the guidelines of the
Connecticut Interscholastic Athletic Conference (CIAC), the Berkshire
League, and the Connecticut Technical High School System for athletic
participation. Our goal is to raise the caliber of our athletes
and have them assume the roles of leadership and act as ambassadors
of our school. The student-athlete continually serves as a reflection
of their coach, team, family, & school, and must accept the
responsibilities that accompany this privilege. Therefore, the
student-athlete must maintain a high level of academic and personal
standards.
ATHLETIC
ELIGIBILITY POLICY
- Students
failing shop are automatically ineligible.
- Students
must not fail more than one class, otherwise they become ineligible.
- Students
must maintain a respectable disciplinary record (no suspensions,
detentions, etc). If detentions and suspensions become a problem,
administration will take appropriate action on an individual
basis.
- Students
must be in school for the entire day in order to participate
in practice or games. Family emergencies, death in the family,
and special circumstances will be dealt with on an individual
basis with administrative approval.
- A student
who is suspended may not participate in any practice or athletic
contest during their suspension period.
- A student
who cuts classes during the day will not be allowed to practice
or play in an athletic contest.
- A student
who is caught hazing a fellow teammate will become ineligible.
- Failure
to attend scheduled practices and games will cause a student
to become ineligible.
- Attending
any "skip-day" activities will result in automatic one game
suspension.
HOW
TO REGAIN ACADEMIC ELIGIBILITY
-
After
a 3 game suspension, the student must be passing all of his/her
classes. A teacher signoff sheet must be turned in for verification.
If a student is not passing all classes and shop, they remain
ineligible.
- Academic
work and shop theory can be made up after school. In house
shop work can be made up after school whenever practical.
However, production work must be made up during the student's
regular shop cycle.
** For the
athletic policy - administration is considered the Principal,
Assistant Principal, Guidance Coordinator, and Athletic Coordinator. |
