A
Senior Collaboration
On October 28th
and 29th Senior Hairdressing and Computer
Aided Drafting and Design students collaborated on
a Dream Salon Project. The Hairdressing students drew preliminary sketches
on graph paper of their salon floor plans, including but not limited
to reception areas, facial rooms, work stations, tanning areas, handicapped
baths and upper/ lower levels. They then met with the drafting students
on a one to one basis, were interviewed, and worked with them to develop
the designs further in AutoCAD. The designs were drawn and printed
in ¼ scale
so the Hairdressing students could use them as a template to build
scale models.
“The idea is that we would get the two shops together so the kids could design their own salons and then create in on CAD. The students worked in shop, at home, and we even did research in the library to come up with designs and ideas, said HB Department Head Lynn Seiser. “They drew chairs, a layout of each salon area, some had a dispensary, waterfalls, staircases, and coloring and nail areas. It took only a few days from the time they did the research. The kids were wonderful and worked side by side with the drafting students. They
concentrated on completion and were on task the whole way.”
Next the HB
students will build their models from the CAD drawings. “The projects are due in March,” added Ms. Seiser. We will enter them into our school’s
Art Show.”
Mr. Bruce Ejzak,
our Computer Aided Drafting and Design teacher explained
his students’ role
this way: “We’ve been doing a unit on architecture. With
the plan in place with the HB kids, I told my guys to treat them as
clients with preliminary ideas and drawings. We matched the kids
up one to one. They worked very well that way. It gave
them time to interact and exchange ideas. It was awesome
to see 30 kids in our room and working so hard." The
Drafting kids drew the designs and put them on AutoCad for the HB kids
to use for their models.
