2008-09 OWTS Scholar Athletes

 

Senior students Samantha Amoroso and Aaron Montgomery have been named Oliver Wolcott’s Scholar Athletes for this school year.  Both athletes and their families will be honored at the annual banquet, to be held at the Aqua Turf Club in Southington, in late May.  Each has the highest grade point average, over four years, of all athletes at the school.

Samantha Amoroso and Aaron Montgomery

 

Aaron Montgomery is a Health Technology student.  His Honors courses have enabled him to achieve an academic average of 101.  He is the class Salutatorian.  Aaron has played Volleyball (4), Soccer (2), Basketball (1) and Cross-Country (1) at OWTS.  He has been awarded the Berkshire League’s Most Improved and Most Consistent honors in the sport of Volleyball.  A member of the National Honor Society, he currently serves as its Treasurer.  He is also a member of Skills USA, and has participated in recruiting visits to area Middle Schools with the guidance department.  His volunteer work includes Open House evenings and the Breakfast with Santa program.  He has achieved perfect attendance since his freshman year.

 

Academically, Aaron has been awarded a Presidential Scholarship to UConn, and a Rensselaer Medal for excellence in advanced mathematics and science courses.

 

After school Aaron is working as a dietary aide at Litchfield Woods.  He will choose between UConn and Springfield College for a degree as a physician’s assistant, following his Health Technology trade.

 

Samantha Amoroso is a Drafting Technology student.  She has a grade point average of 93 and ranks 10th in her class.  Samantha has played both Soccer and Softball for all four of her years here at Wolcott Tech.  She is a Student Council Representative, a member of the National Honor Society, and also Skills USA.  Samantha also was a member of the Math League for two years and participated in team competitions.  She volunteers for school Open House evenings and helps with the Breakfast with Santa program.

 

Samantha has been a Work-Based Learning student as a Junior and a Senior.  She works in Torrington at Franklin Products as a CAD operator.  At Franklin, she creates cover drawings, detail drawings, and process sheets.

 

Upon graduation, she will attend Roger Williams College or UConn.  She is currently deciding about pursuing an architecture degree at one of those institutions.
